Most of the advanced work in the UCSC Electronic Music Studios is done with Cycling74's program Max. Max offers an easy to use system for assembling chunks of code (called objects) into extremely sophisticated programs. These programs can manipulate MIDI data, generate and process sound and even generate and process video graphics.

Peter Elsea is an active developer of code modules for Max. These are distributed free to the world as the Lobjects.
