“Saving the World with Simple Pictures: How to Put an Arts Education to Work”
Friday, May 6, 2011 - 1:00am
Media Theater, Theater Arts Center (UCSC)
Presented by:
Art Dept.
Arts Division

A free public lecture by author and UCSC alum Dan Roam, part of the Creativity+Innovation series.

Thirty years in global business have taught me that it is the lessons of art that will best help us solve the big problems of today. Creativity under constraint, sound judgment in uncertain environments, rigorous thinking amid complex ideas -- these are the skills taught by the arts. And these are the skills that we need more than ever in business and politics. In this lecture, I will introduce the visual thinking tools that took me from the Baskin Arts Studio to Moscow to the White House.

This presentation is part of the series of free, public lectures in the Dean's Lecture Series entitled "Creativity and Innovation" (part of the course Art 80V: "Issues and Artists" taught by Associate Professor Lewis Watts). Arts Division Dean David Yager has selected nine speakers, all noted for their unique ability to bridge innovation and creativity within their professional career paths. The public is cordially invited. Admission is free. Parking $3.

Additional lectures scheduled Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. through June 2 in the Media Theater.

Sponsored by the UCSC Division of the Arts and the UCSC Art Department

The Media Theater is the lecture hall located next to the traffic circle in front of the Mainstage Theater at UCSC.
