Join us for a Campus Walk with Artists-in-Residence Public Doors and Windows, Friday, April 11, 1-4 pm
In his art practice, Harrell Fletcher often begins with the following question: where does a museum end and the outside world begin? The Institute for the Arts and Sciences at UCSC is in the process of redefining what an academic museum can be. We have invited Fletcher and his collaborators, Molly Sherman and Nolan Calisch—who together make art as Public Doors and Windows—to share their ideas of how to blur the lines between art exhibition spaces, communities in which they are embedded, and the world.
To begin doing this, the artists have worked with students, faculty, and staff to plan a 3-hour walk on the UCSC campus on Friday, April 11.
The walk will begin outside of the Digital Arts Research Center and will encompass stops at sites like the Village, the Farm, the Kresge Co-op, and the oldest tree on campus, among others. At each stop, a short lecture about the places we are walking through will come from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and from many different voices.
Please join us for this experiential public walk. We will meet in front of the Digital Arts Research Center (DARC) and begin the walk at 1 pm. Wear shoes for hiking, and bring water. We will provide refreshments at the midpoint of the walk.
