The UCSC Concert Choir performs a concert of masses and motets by two pillars of music history. Palestrina's Missa Brevis, published in 1570, is a perfect distillation of his contrapuntal mastery. A polyphonic master of his own time, Josef Rheinberger wrote his Missa Brevis in F 310 years later, infusing his own counterpoint with pungent harmonies and dramatic, dynamic nuance. The program also includes Rheinberger's Abendlied, Palestrina's Sicut Cervus, and a selection of other motets. Conducted by Nathaniel Berman.
