with the Charles Lloyd New Quartet, Geri Allen opens
Part of the four-day festival and conference "Improvisation, Diversity, and Change: Uncovering New Social Paradigms Within Spontaneous Musical Creativity"
At 71 when most individuals are thinking of ways to slow down and kick back, Charles Lloyd has shifted to a higher gear and formed a new quartet, perhaps his best.
To celebrate his 70th birthday in March of 2008, he released his first live quartet recording in over twenty-five years, “Rabo de Nube” on ECM. The new group with Jason Moran on piano, Reuben Rogers on bass, and Eric Harland drums, brought European audiences to their feet during the group’s first outing together in the Spring of 2007.
The New Quartet has been hailed around the world as perhaps, Lloyd’s best group to date – bringing to mind his original quartet with Keith Jarrett, Jack De Johnette and Cecil McBee. With Jason Moran on piano, Reuben Rogers on bass, and Eric Harland on drums, Lloyd brings a fresh and adventurous listening journey to the music lover.
