The Name of This Dance Changes Every Day
Choreographed and directed by Cid Pearlman

In collaboration with UCSC dance students, director/choreographer Cid Pearlman creates an interdisciplinary performance informed by Maggie Nelson’s book-length poem Bluets. Pearlman and dancers will use Nelson’s queer, feminist, and multilayered text to create a performance that intertwines philosophy, poetics, and memoir in a rigorous and intensely personal aesthetic. Part performance, part installation, the audience will enter a theater populated by micro-worlds, each with its own movement language. Music for Bluets #1-40 is composed by UCSC alumnus Jonathan Segel (violinist for Camper Van Beethoven), scenic design is by Theater Arts Professor Kate Edmunds, poet Denise Leto acts as dramaturge.  Also on the program is small variations, performed by Pearlman’s dance company. Nominated for LA’s Horton Award in 2006, this work features original music by composer/cellist Joan Jeanrenaud, formerly of Kronos Quartet.
