UCSC Wind Ensemble: Ghost Train

Ghost Train
Saturday, March 3, 2018 - 7:30pm
Music Center Recital Hall (UCSC)
Presented by:
Music Department

The UCSC Wind Ensemble presents an evening of evocative and cinematic music by Whitacre, Bernstein, Colgrass, and Hisaishi. Michael Colgrass's "Bali" evokes the sound of Balinese Gamelan with colorful orchestration and unique scoring for percussion. Joe Hisaishi's brilliant score to Miyazaki's beloved animated film, "Spirited Away," includes powerful and tender excerpts from the film's soundtrack. "Ghost Train" is Eric Whitacre's tour-de-force depiction of a mythical supernatural train passing through the American West. "Slava" is Leonard Bernstein's big-hearted and comical dedication to his friend, the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.
