Re-contextualizing American pop icons
The Happy Valley Band is a deconstruction of the Great American Songbook through the use of state-of-the-art machine listening technologies. The project is directed by composer and Music DMA graduate student David Kant, who has developed custom software to separate, analyze, and transcribe the voices and backing bands of American pop icons — Elvis Presley, Patsy Cline, James Brown, Madonna, Phil Collins, and others. Their debut album ORGANVM PERCEPTVS, five years in the making, was published by Santa Cruz based record label Indexical in 2016.
