Home Page Logic: Arts Division

Student with Film Camera

The logic of Arts Division home page is like this:

Top-of-Page News Ticker

Read this page to learn about News Ticker items.

Top "Works and Ideas" box

To appear in the home page top box:

1.  The page must already exist on the Arts Division website (not an external site), and must be set to "Published." The page must be either a "Works and Ideas" page or a "News Story" page.  No other content is eligible for the top box (notably, not Events nor News Links.)

2.  Check "Promoted to Front Page" in Publishing Options.

3.  To give a page priority over all other pages, check the "Sticky at top of lists" box in Publishing Options.

Important!  When changing one top-of-home-page story for another, uncheck "sticky at top of lists" on the old story and check it on the new one.  If multiple stories are "sticky at top of lists," then they will appear alternately at random.  This is not terrible, but it is probably not what you want.  If no stories are checked as "sticky," then the default content -- student art works and faculty videos -- will appear.

Three "Arts Events" boxes

1.  The page is of type "Event" and is set to "Published" in Publishing Options.

2. "Promoted to Front Page" is checked in Publishing Options.

3.  "Division home page listing expires on..." date is later than today.

The three events are sorted left to right by the beginning date of the event.  In other words, the event that begins the earliest is at the left.  If there are more than three qualifying events, the ones with the start dates closest to today will appear, and the ones further in the future will not.

The big "Arts People" box

1.  The page is of type "News Story" and is set to "Published" in Publishing Options.

2. "Promoted to Front Page" is checked in Publishing Options.

3.  "Division home page listing expires on..." is later than any other qualifying story.

4.  The "Affiliation" box is one of these:  Featured... Artist, Donor, Faculty, Staff, Student, Alum or Story.
