Welcome to the UCSC Music Department's Opera Program Spring 2005 production of Don Giovanni. Mozart's setting of the Da Ponte libretto (premiered in 1787) has become one of the most popular and well-known operas in the repertoire. The music is challenging and beautiful; and the plot is deliciously complex. Our student orchestra and cast (conducted by Nicole Paiement) have put forth great effort in order to master the score, sung in Italian with super-titles. We hope to see you there! |

Already Mozart's darkest opera, I have taken the well-known story of the unscrupulous seducer's demise and superimposed on the period setting a vampire mythological theme suggesting a new level of Don Giovanni's most predatory nature. This ambitious project will result in an engaging and impressive run of four performances June 2nd through 5th at the UCSC Recital Hall. Brian Staufenbiel, Artistic Director |
