HISTORY OF ART & VISUAL CULTURE (GRADUATE STUDENT)

Internship: Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History (MAH)

CEI is a way to learn about what makes this community so special and to figure out how I can offer my own experience and knowledge.

Not only is Leslie McShane a PhD candidate at UCSC who recently moved here from Philadelphia, but she’s also a mother of a one-year-old daughter who she enjoys spending her time with whenever possible. Her professional interests lie with learning more about community-based arts institutions and how they influence local values and accomplishments.

When she begins her internship at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History, she’s eager to gain a deeper insight into building a personal practice that’s defined by challenging existing pedagogical conventions through arts interventions.

“I’m thrilled to learn from the community in this program and to continue to develop my practice as an educator, researcher, and arts activist,” says Leslie. I’m also looking forward to working with young people who live in Santa Cruz and neighboring communities.”
