Arts Division

We live in the midst of a disruptive age, where the face of culture and the nature of the human condition are rapidly changing.

Growing up in the rural town of Petaluma, UCSC Arts Division alumnus Brian Kavanaugh-Jones grew up appreciating the culture and beauty of California while also experiencing what the outside world had to offer.

The UC Santa Cruz Arts Division is very pleased to announce that Elaine Gan has been awarded one of five 2019 Distinguished Graduate Student Alumni Awards. Gan holds both an M.F.A. in digital arts and new media (2011) and a Ph.D.

Just over a couple of weeks ago, Brent Foland never imagined that his time would soon be dedicated to building face masks for his fellow UC Santa Cruz employees.

Topiary Landberg, PhD Candidate in Film + Digital Media and a THI [The Humanities Institute] Graduate Student Researcher, is an experimental media artist  and film scholar whose doctoral research focuses on urban landscape documentary media.

MC: You have had a remarkable career as a theater artist. How did you get initially involved with the Wooster Group, one of the foremost experimental theater companies in America?

Catastrophic environmental breakdown, mass species extinction, financial collapse, racist separatism, global nuclear war…there is much speculation these days that we are living at the end of democracy, liberalism, capitalism, a cool planet, and civilization as we know it.

After a campuswide search, UC Santa Cruz has appointed Martin Berger to serve as associate vice provost for Academic Affairs.  A term appointment through June 2019, Berger will work on four specific high-profile and important projects.
