History of Art and Visual Culture

Promoting freedom of expression, combating censorship and building diversity, equity and inclusion through arts, audiences are invited to view the Art & Oppression Comics Exhibition between May 26–June 1.

Featuring artwork from Art Professor Dee Hibbert-Jones’ comics student awardees: Aaron Samuel Mulenga, Lizzy Drew, Ellory Erecius, Emily Tran, Isabella Dennis, Milo Halperin, Pichy Jumpholwong, Serena Teresa and Stella Brown. Students directly responded to the Jim Gunderson & Peter Coha comics collection, other eclectic works by independent artists and ephemera from Special Collection & Archives.

See also sneak previews from the newest limited edition Slug Comic featuring Thought Drinker by Amy Gerstler and Elektro by Ivan Brandon, illustrations by Natalie Andrews and Francesca Cireglia. Each work responds to themes of oppression, silence, and identity, celebrating graphic works as a medium of resistance.
