Hip-Hop Hesteria Contest 2021

April in Santa Cruz Contemporary Music Festival invites submissions to the 2021 Hip Hop Hesteria contest. The contest consists of two rounds of evaluation + two virtual concerts + eight cash prizes.

ROUND 1: SUBMIT A RAP
Contestants will create a 3–5 minute rap (to their own beat) on the topic “Duo Pandemic”(Racism/COVID-19). Submit a recording to rapforceacademy@gmail.com no later than midnight on January 8, 2021.

ROUND 2: SEMIFINALS
After the first-round evaluation, six semifinalists will receive $100 each. The contest will then distribute four new original beats for semifinalists to choose from to begin work recording their same rap over new background beats for the second round. The six new original beats provided will consist of four original hip-hop background beats (choose one), as well as two experimental jazz background beats from (choose one) for the Semifinals Concert.

SEMIFINALS CONCERT
Semifinalists will all perform in a virtual concert on Friday, April 23, 2021, at 7:30 pm. Two contest winners will be selected at that event.

CONTEST WINNERS & FINAL CONCERT
The two contest winners will each receive $500 and perform their rap to the Experimental Jazz beat in a second virtual concert along with the ensemble Hesterian Musicism on Friday, April 30, 2021, at 7:30 pm.
