Protests in Print brings together an archive of documents, posters, and photographs of 20th-century organizing at UC Santa Cruz. From protesting the Vietnam War to organizing against police brutality after the brutal beating of Rodney King, students at UCSC have actively shaped history. The pamphlets, flyers, and other visual materials are the lasting records of student movements— revealing how students in the 20th century took part in public dialogue and critiqued existing systems, becoming voices of change. The visual ephemera, seen against the backdrop of current organizing against injustice, also connects past and present struggles.

The posters, photographs, and ephemera on exhibition are from the Collection of the University of California, Santa Cruz, Special Collections & Archives.

*Please note: Protests in Print will be closed from March 14–18, 2023 for the Third Thursday Sesnon Salon presentation of works by the first-year Environmental Art and Social Practice MFA cohort.
