Nelsen Hutchison
Ph.D Ethnomusicology Student
Inspired at the age of ten by the irreverent funk/rock group the Red Hot Chili Peppers, UC Santa Cruz Music Department alumnus Adam Kubota was destined to push musical boundaries.
Growing up in Indonesia, Jay Afrisando heard his mother singing karaoke almost every day. He partly credits this experience for him becoming a composer and sound artist.
UC Santa Cruz has received a grant from the Council on Library and Information Resources (CLIR) to digitize 670 audio recordings featuring a wide variety of works performed at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music from 1964 to 1990.
David Dunn, Assistant Professor of Music, received a patent to help fight bark beetles ravaging Western forests in November 2016 by joining forces with two forest scientists from Northern Arizona University to combat an insect infestation that is killing millions of trees throughout the West.
