Pacific Rim Music Festival: Celebration of Edgard Varèse

Music Center Recital Hall

"Seizing the Future — Edgard Varèse (1883–1965)"

UCSC's 2010 Pacific Rim Music Festival opens with a special concert of rarely performed music by the influential French-born composer Edgard Varèse. His concept of "organized sound" and his use of new instruments and other non-traditional sound sources greatly influenced the contemporary avant-garde.

This concert features works for chamber orchestra as well as a 13-piece percussion ensemble.

Featuring Ensemble Parallèle (conducted by Nicole Paiement), the New Music Ensemble of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the UCSC Percussion Ensemble (conducted by William Winant).
