Shakespeare to Go: "Romeo and Juliet"

Shakespeare to go
Friday, June 8, 2018 - 12:00am
Second Stage (Theater Arts Center, UCSC)
Presented by:
Theater Arts Department

Shakespeare to Go presents its final performances of the season with two back-to-back presentations of their 50-minute version of "Romeo and Juliet."

Romeo is a Montague, and Juliet a Capulet. Their families are enmeshed in a feud, but the moment they meet—when Romeo and his friends attend a party at Juliet's house in disguise—the two fall in love and quickly decide that they want to be married.

Shakespeare to Go has been taking Shakespeare's plays on the road since 1984, with a mission to connect with local youth and give back to the community. Each year, a team of UCSC students work innovatively to bring one of Shakespeare's plays to life by making it relevant to younger audiences. While the new script is shortened, the richness of Shakespeare’s language always remains.
