New Faculty Introduced at Retreat

The Arts Division was thrilled to welcome five new faculty members at this year's Arts Division Retreat on September 29.

David Dunn is a composer, sounds artist, theorist, and sound designer with an MFA in new media from Danube University in Austria.  He has taught and performed in institutions across the US and Europe.  In addition to his achievements in performance, he has a substantial publication record.
 
Nicol Hamond is an ethnomusicologist who specializes in post-Apartheid South Africa.  She is particularly concerned with the construction of identity, whether through pop or choral music.  She expects to receive her Ph.D. from NYU later this year.
 
Enrique Leal is a printmaker who holds a Ph.D. from the University of Castilla la Mancha, Spain. He holds an expansive view of printmaking, with particular interests in multimedia and contemporary art practices. His work is held by many prominent museums and libraries in Europe and the US.
 
Albert Narath is an urban historian with interest in design history. He holds a Ph.D. in modern architectural history from Columbia University. Prior to his arrival at Santa Cruz, he taught architectural history and design at the University of Oregon.
 
Susana Ruiz has a Ph.D. in media arts and practice from USC; also an MFA in interactive media from USC. She’s co-founder of Take Action Games, an innovative game design studio specializing in playable media that promotes social change.
 
Jennifer Maytorena Taylor is a social documentary filmmaker with particular interests in Latino and Latin American Communities. She holds an MA is Journalism from USC. Her award-winning films have been widely screened at festivals and on television networks around the world.
